The Clients

The clients are in their 30’s and are a professional husband and wife design team who are ready to relocate their current residence and in-house art/design studio to a new urban space. They are interested in all things design related and are forward thinking, innovative and open to new ideas. In addition, they have a great appreciation for Modern Era ideals and clean line designs. Their needs will consist of a living space for themselves and workspace for their art/design studio.

The Space

The loft space is part of an adaptive reuse projec and is on the top floor of a 5-story mid-rise warehouse located in the historic Strip District of Pittsburgh. The warehouse has been renovated to accommodate retail space at ground level and live/work lofts on floors 2-5. The buildings existing masonry and brick shell has been weather sealed and all exterior walls have been insulated to meet current energy codes. New windows reference the original warehouse glazing yet contain new thermally broken frames and double insulated low-e glass. The existing interior space contains original poured in place concrete slabs with concrete columns, original exposed brick and 14’-0” high wood beam ceilings.
